Founded not in a boardroom but in a private salon in Vienna in 2018, it was born out of a singular frustration: the world's true innovators were being drowned out by noise. Our founders—former diplomats, creative directors, economists, and one meticulous historian—set out to build something radically different: a global distinction that couldn’t be bought, applied for, or gamed.

The first five honorees? Chosen in complete anonymity. No applications. No campaigns. Just rigorous, months-long research, peer vetting, and cultural relevance. They didn’t even know they were being considered. That principle remains.

By 2021, our internal nominating council had expanded across five continents. Today, fewer than 0.04% of suggested names make it to the longlist. Every name is studied in context—not just for what they’ve built, but how they built it, and why.
